staying balanced

Here we are up on the Challenge Course on Manatawny Mountain or Rabbit Hill whichever you best know it by. We were trying to stay balanced on a very wobbly platform. There were many things going on while we were balancing making it more and more difficult.

Today I need to stay balanced. This morning I could not find my pocket bible----so I felt like I was going to miss my reading....then, then I remembered that the Internet is a wonderful thing and I clicked over to www.biblegateway.com and completed my reading.

Now---I have some heavy duty meetings today in DC---things that have been weighing on my mind and it is time to confront them and deal with the consequences. Folks--this is not going to be fun. So my mind and mental state have been not as confident as I would like (life's like that sometimes).

But just like balancing on that big platform with all kinds of things going on---STOP & focus---I did, I read Proverbs and then I reread my reading....then I talked with God and thought about what I read and wow....I am in a much better place.
You can be too.

I have been known to fight the fight just to fight. These are photos from last week @ camp during the tug-o-war. It is no joke, people line up to watch and cheer....you really don't know to much during the tug except to tug and pull and P-U-L-L !

and when it's over/done, you are spent. You have given what you have to give. The battle does make you stronger. The trials DO make you more faithful.

this is not our world, this is not our time. that's where the joy of the Lord is found.

I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

I am heading to DC to find out who stole some cash deposits from not just one store last wkend, but also from three stores this AM. The evidence is coming out as to who may have done this. My knees are infected from the Tug-O-War last week @ camp and my forearms are bruised from bellyflopping not too mention the countless bruises up and down my chest and arms from being involved in the picture above. I had to forgo my Radiohead ticket for tonite as I have no clue how long I ill be in DC today.

So what does it all mean??? NOTHING! The moment pictured above is as close to real life as you may get---living for the moment, nothing is guaranteed, nothing is forever except the love of Jesus. Will you die to yourself and live for Him? what else do you REALLY have?

Take the moment---right now! Thank Him!!! Talk to Him---He listens, He loves and He is real, really real.

okay so a good friend of mine from camp invited me to be her friend on facebook and sure I get the blogs, but I haven't really been able to figure out facebook and myspace----they don't seem to do anything ( I will get it). So Jocyln invites me to be her friend, but wait---I don't even have a facebook page and so link after link and question after question and I am on facebook and lo and behold like a gazillion of my contacts are somehow told and invited to by my friend on facebook....facebook will have to wait a bit....tomorrow is camp and today is crunch time in preparation.

I heard from a good friend who was @ camp last nite that three sisters got baptised in the name of Jesus Christ.....wow, wow, wow & double wow!

I just spoke with Jeffrey----Jeffrey is my mailman. He is leaving for Jamaica and South Beach Miami---Jealous, want to go??? Jeffrey is going by himself. His girlfriend died this past April and his father died last August. I had talked to him after his dad died last year. I talked to Jeffrey about real life.....Life that lasts forever (and for those that read here, here's a treat---Sat's campfire Devo is about "forever"), I really didn't think my talk meant anything major to Jeff and I still don't...BUT, what do you say to someone who lost their girlfriend just FOUR months ago?!
1st.....I am sorry about your loss. You can have no words that will fit this situation, but your verbal expression of sorrow will suffice.
2nd....after some time I explained to Jeffrey a little of how I think....
a. this world is a horrible place it is Satan's domain
b. Heaven and forever and the path that leads there.

after doing this ever so gently, but not w/o boldness....you w/b surprised how receptive Jeffrey was and others have been.
people may not let you know they think about this stuff, but they do quite a bit, don't you?

So if they are thinking about it.....help 'em along.....

Apparently after his dad died he had moved in with his girlfriend (that's a whole 'nother blog session---don't go there!!) and his girlfriend, before passing had introduced him the the church, where he was baptised!

what's going on??????

so, today on may way to work, my ever so lovely wife puts on the local newsradio station KYW, Newsradio, 1060 (repetitive commercials really do work). AND get this....the weather, what we wanted to hear/know immediately comes on and sure enough the announcer says that right now we are experiencing "dappled sunlight", c'mon now---DAPPLED SUNLIGHT?!

God is at work in my heart.....He is showing me more and more as I

so.....whatcha think....huh???? A fine, ultra fine, super fine, extra sweet, super bright PEARL....that's H E A V E N and what would you do to obtain it??
One man would SELL everything he had just to obtain it!!

For us.....it's simple----seek Him in ALL that you do and you will discover the cost He states.

Pray to Him
Fellowship with other people who look for and know Him

then, if you do all that....you WILL see the "dappled sunlight" every single day and it is spectacular....truly, truly spectacular.

so, like I am checking the weather forecast for when I will be at camp for a week.....hey, it might be 10 days away, but technology rocks and they can forecast things like that these days! so, like I said...checking it out and making sure it is not going to be terribly humid---know what I mean?

The calm before the storm. The pool before the water is stirred up and shaken by TRUE LIFE. People deciding to repent and change their lives and be transformed by the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. The water lays dormant unmoved in the heat of the night. The hot and humid night without a breeze to stir the grasses let alone the water. The people who gather at camp are so amazing and loving...like Christ Himself.

Will you stir up the water?

Will you change your life??

Will you go underneath the cool stillness of the water and break free through the surface a forgiven person???

Everything the world has is temporary. It is all just a passing of the moment.

To break the surface of the water is to make the moment last forever, not a lifetime, but FOREVER.

what does it all mean?

when i step out of the car and into a week of when camp is in session it is the HOLY SPIRIT that engulfs me. time seems to be endless and have no meaning. the people everywhere are encouraging and loving. the people everywhere are forgiving and loving. the people everywhere are patient and loving. the people, the people, the people are like Christ.

it doesn't seem to end. the people are like servants and loving.



and so I sit in a hotel with people all around me that are dead to Christ and truly there is NO LIFE amongst these people. there is hurt and pain and most even don't know it. their hearts are hardened. they are living, but not. an impossiability???? NO! The life they have is temporary and the life I have been PROMISED is FOREVER AND EVER AND EVER AND EVER AND WITHOUT END--EVER!



and so I sit and hear the people talking of pain and i don't see life and when i talk of life (JESUS) to them they gloss over.

please don't gloss over....please.

my joy comes in knowing the truth

so on monday nite, after a meeting on camp, I had to leave camp. I was not working the week and I had work obligations etc. I ran into this bunch. Two of the boys had been in my cabin and I knew all of them. Their love abounded. Hugs and smiles and hugs and smiles and love, love, love.
No traffic lites, no billboards, no radios, nothing, but love.

Isn't that how God is? Nothing, but love (including tough love)?

How can we bring that love into the hardened hearts of the world?

How can we show the non-Camp Manatawny people the love of Christ? For isn't that the reason for the smiles and the hugs?

I know I must sound super repetitive on this blog.....honestly.....I can't help it. God is simple, not complicated.

I was talking with a good friend of mine today..."Jag" and during the conversation we started talking about the innocence of a child and how they don't question God or His existence. They are more receptive and accepting of God then us adults. Doesn't Jesus talk about that, the innocence of a child?

He does and for good reason.

Be like Mike.....NO, be like Christ.

Mike is divorcing his wife that he no longer loves. Jesus is forgiving us all.....all the time.

3rd post of the nite

Dear God,

When I counsel at camp this year I want to have a cabin full. Each cabin has 9 bunks. I am going to have a co-counselor this year that means we will have 7 bunks available. God, please fill them for us and if you have more then seven campers for us...no worries Mark (co-counselor) or I will sleep on the floor. Lord God bring it on!!!!

so my mtg @ camp went from 7-9:30ish. then we went to the pool for three baptisms! a w e s o m e stuff----yeah?!

then we went to garrett hall and sang songs of praise till Erin's parents arrived for the 4th batpism! it was an amazing spirit filled nite. let me say it loudly---camp is just a piece of land....I am at camp a LOT when there are next to no people there, getting canteen ready and mtgs and stuff and it IS NEVER the same as when it is filled with campers, because when it is filled with campers and staff that bring the Holy Spirit to life and you can feel it, touch it and most of all---KNOW IT or should I say ---KNOW HIM?!

camp is home, no camp is a glimpse a peek or a blink of an eye of just a touch of what heaven will be. I was reminisicing with a few campers about our past week together and then I brought up baptism and they grew silent. Sure it's BIG stuff, Huge decisions that impact a life and that is when I realized....our role here on earth. We are building a kingdom. How can anyone not want to build a kingdom or be a part of a kingdom??????

There is SO much MORE to life then this earth people!!! More then you can even begin to imagine. Seek Him out...just look for Him and He will show Himself to you....He is never faraway at all----only we are faraway; if we so choose.

It really wasn't that boring and the board consists of some amazing people!!

When He has that control...when you've given it up to Him and only then....then others will see Him. His brightness through the life you live will be blinding. Those that meet you will not help, but to see Him....shine...go ahead and S H I N E !

camp starts

On Sat. camp started with staff decked out in
C A R O L I N A B L U E.
There were newcomers to camp and the tried and true camp rats.
I was jealous---in attendance for the Challenge Course (formerly know as low ropes) and here were people ready to start living at camp for the next week! WOW! A solid week of camp---that is amazing! I am jealous in a good way.....happy for them, excited for staff and campers alike to be ready to experience a solid week of Jesus Christ!

Highlights of the 1st day of camp (for me)

a. A certain staff member biked 83 miles to get to camp. this person left their home @ around 5:30 AM and we seemed to hear a yell of accomplishment around 11:00ish.

b. Seeing a co-staffer that I have not seen in around 3+ years and hearing about a year spent abroad in Africa doing mission work.

c. Observing the most creative hairstyles at Senior High.....they wear their hair 'da BEST!

d. Eating lunch in the Dining Hall

e. Having a slushie on a hot day and getting serious brain freeze

hope you have planned a week of camp....if not what are you waiting for?

Prince Caspian!

Wow! The Coll's church of Christ headed out to the local theatre for the showing of Caspian tonight! We musta had about 30+ people from church hit the show----it was great! SPOILER ALERT---sorry I am going to hit on some highlights of the show for me so if you don't want to know some of the movie things STOP HERE and move on!

MAJOR HIGHLIGHTS!

My son Sean ( I seemed to miss this one) said when Aslan asked Lucy "why she didn't follow Him" she said "because the others didn't"

When Aslan made the call to people to start anew in a new world---Matthew 28. That was pure scripture for me.

When Peter left those who followed him to die because the gate crashed down and they were caught in the castle and left to die.......HEAVY METAL!

and then......when the foursome went back to the real world.....they were with Aslan and then back in the subway....just like real life.

it was a great movie due to the correlation with scripture and the movie--ENJOY!

These are the final hours before the vote is over and 2008's staff shirt is decided. It really does not take a lot to make a color win. Figure Road Crew Orange is 11 votes down.....that's only 11 people voting and BOOM!!! Everyone a camp is in orange----or----- you can just sit back and chillax since who is EVER going to be able to get 11 people to vote??!!??

THE Grand Canyon

We hiked down South Kaibab Trail. The trail started with ice and snow. Only 1% of the GC's visitors venture below the rim--- We were part of the !%

Five men embarked on what was called Big Boy II.

Romans Christians Soldiers

Remember playing Romans, Christians, Soldiers during Intermediate II? It has been a staple game for that week for many, many years. It's interesting when you are dubbed a Christian and if and when you get approached by a Roman you have a chance (you have nothing to lose) to tell them about Jesus Christ----and even should the Roman turn you into the Soldiers you still have nothing to lose to tell all about Christ----the Christians come together---they sing hymns in prison together and have no worries since collectively they have each other and it is by that encouragement they help maintain their faith in Him who gives eternal life.

As we all encourage one another to VOTE ( manatawnystaffshirt@yahoo.com ) for this years Staff shirt color it becomes apparent to me that we are networking each other to vote for certain colors----that's a beautiful thing.......Let's network the Holy Spirit huh??? I have come to the conclusion that when there is a public baptism there is generally shouts of joy with clapping----I have wondered why and have to my conclusion that is inclusion.....someone has joined the SAME BELIEF that we have and it causes joy when others, through baptism show faith in God.

Let's tell the world lovingly who is King----let's show them through love who God is!

Conestoga Valley Makes some NOISE!

Well folks it seems like the good brothers and sisters of Conestoga Valley Church of Christ are making some NOISE.....some of the members of CV are seriously trying to sway the vote for Carolina Blue Tee with a Navy font. Some people have even tried to change their vote after casting it once and that's a no-no!

Some members of a church far, far away from Conestoga are plotting to vote @ the last minute and take everyone by suprise......time will tell.....

Superbowl Champs

That was an A M A Z I N G game, amazing.

I bleed Manatawny GREEN and EAGLES green.....I was cheering for Eli to win. Lo and behold Tank Daniels who plays for the G-Men and is a Harding Alum is a SUPERBOWL champ. The only image I could find is of him in an Eagles uniform.....congrats Tank.....Church of Christ is in the HOUSE!!!!

When @ Camp Manatawny--when we spend "our" week, typically we do not see or hear television-radio-recorded music-any news media

When I am @ camp I do not drive off camp property so I do not sit @ any traffic lights ( I let others make Wal-Mart and coffee runs).

We talk to each other.
We listen to each other.

Our quality of life @ camp is people oriented.

How can we transform our daily American life to reflect the same people oriented quality of life that we experience @ camp?

Camp means many things to many people---Camp Manatawny's forte' is Chirst.

If we all reflected Christ daily and died to ourselves and lived for Him daily our quality of life would be life changing and not just for ourselves.

This week is another concert, a rock concert.....I love music.....most of us do.

This year I have seen a lot of live music...I make it a point too. Music inspires.....creates....and allows our emotions to become apparent. Music is a form of communication and expression.

Friday nite is a concert.....Switchfoot and Reliant K.....I love Switchfoot....they rock and their lyrics are cool. They also crossover to mainstream.......yup, both bands are deemed Christian.
I am not one for LABELS, but there is no denying.....these folks believe in Jesus Christ.

anyway...I am about 10 minutes outside of center city Philly and my exquisite wife will be there to pick me up off the Amtrak train and it is just about 9:00 PM on Monday nite......

turns out that some people did not agree with some other people and they chose to forgo an event when they really didn't know what the event was about.

so my dilemma is: how do I approach these people? how do I get them on my page....that's what I've been thinking, BUT the question s/b how do I get on their page???? How do I see what they see. Nope this post has no inherent bearing on camp.....it has to do with my church.

so I need to step down and think/pray about how to approach this group of people and how to best serve them.

Camp right now

Right this very second as I type these letters I sit @ Camp Manatawny....it is 10:22 PM on Sat 9/29 and the moon which was full this past Wed is waning.

There is a church here ----having a retreat...I really don't know anyone from this church (I know it's kinda odd that I don't know anyone).

My lovely wife, Margaret the beautiful one had voluntered to cook for camp a few times this fall and she asked me to be her helper, to which I forwent the Harding Leadership conference to serve here @ camp....

Hmmmmmm......Leadership Conference or serving others?

Anyway....We got here about 9:30 PM Fri nite and woke-up @ 5:30 AM to get in the kitchen and start cooking for the groups.

Folks, let me tell you.....cooking at camp is no joke.....serious labor....we started in the kitchen about 5:50 AM and got done @ 8:00 PM.
Thank goodness for Alex and Caleb two youth volunteers to clean the trays!

Cooking for 90+ people @ camp has it's trials....pots and pans are serious work....as is prepping potatoe's for breakfast and lunch...potatoe, potatoe, potatoe.....too many potatoes!


BUT HERE'S MY POINT---AND I'VE SAID THIS BEFORE.
I am at Camp Manatawny and it is NOT camp....it's not the same! The land is NOT what makes Camp so very, very, very special!! It's YOU who makes camp special....it is down right boring here without you!!

Yeah, yeah the weather is nice and the sky is as beautiful as any Manatawny sky I have seen before, but it is just not ever really camp unless the people are here.

I miss you okay...each and everyone of you.
I don't miss camp.....I miss what we share at camp.
What we share @ camp is a unique bond of love brought together by Jesus Christ.
